mixed media fiddle

couldn't work with my model today-
(my fault- been unwell for a while) so had
a fiddle with mixed media which I used to love
am fairly pleased with it - pen, ink, watercolour
and acrylic on (I think) Canson pastelpaper
mounted onto mountboard

pastel study - Basil

have produced some poor work since
the last post - perhaps this study
of new girl Basil is a start of a better period-
Kremer, Conte and Unison on
brown Clairefontaine Pastelmat

sunday nude

My regular sunday girl could not turn up today
but a friend of hers (with the improbable name of Basil),
and who obviously had not been at the same
party last night, filled the space - beautifully!
Charcoal on prepared paper - and a new hot
tip!.... the drawing yesterday left one of my
fingertips bleeding - so I put a fabric plaster
on it today and it created a lovely extra tone
in the drawing when I pushed
the charcoal around with it!
but I suspect it has to be a fabric plaster

scanned charcoal

this is the drawing scanned in eight
sections and stitched.......
close to being finished!

more charcoal stages

this is the charcoal taken a bit further
and later I will try to scan it so that
a better impression is given.....
the next charcoal I will use more layers
of gesso so I can do a bit more scraping
back with a blade... how models hate that noise!

charcoal in progress

this charcoal drawing is about a third done
and I thought I would take (grotty) photos
of it as it progressed -
partly so I could see how I draw - and
it may seem daft but there are times when
I have no idea how I got from A to Z
when I draw...
as for grotty the photos are snapped in
my studio without extra light.... the paper
is white! well it is paper with a gesso
surface which allows me to keep the
charcoal fluid.... the charcoal lifts of the
surface easily so every now and then
if I want to darken and area it must be
fixed - I use Lascaux Fixative....
willow charcoal , Conte charcoal pencils and
a big hand for the putty rubber!!
and a bigger one for the wonderful Caitlin
