well this is the pastel more or less done....
more worked than usual but OK for that I think

further progress

further stages - closer to being finished -
final image is scan so a bit more accurate!

a work in progress!

thought I would test the patience of you all
by photographing a pastel as it is done
to show the meandering way I get to the
end of my various journeys....
obviously a way to go yet...
on Clairefontaine pastelmat
begun with a few traditionsl coloured Conte
hard pastels and a couple of favourite Kremer
colours and the developed with Kremer and Unison
and the Conte to tighten up the drawing...
Kremer Pastels have been a favourite for a while
and I was excited to find they had added over
a hundred new colours and some are so subtle!
so I should get a hand done colour chart direct
from their creator Philip Seymour soon with
all the new colours..... made in Italy
information is available through the London based

the oils are out of the shed

have been thinking of dragging the oils out of the shed
and have finally done so - to see how the warpaint
series work in this medium... why?
well the brushstroke is softer than acrylic
and it is easier to mix flesh tones in oils-
I wonder if that is because of the warm tone of the
oil medium as apposed to the clear colourless
binder in the acrylics - anyway....
if anyone has thoughts of relative merits of
my oils, acrylics and pastels do tell -
here or by email......

warpaint

two reasons for doing this study - I am always
fascinated by "small" intimate gestures from
my models - tying up hair, touching their
neck absent mindedly etc - and my model,
after saturday's drawing let me photograph
her while she made up her face - really a
theatrical make up - so I took hundreds of
shots of her doing this....
the other reason is that I think I should be
able to use acrylic in a more painterly way
than I do - almost in the way I use pastels.
anyway - this is a first study....

Thursday morning

I like several variations on this pose-
and this lady has such a natural elegance
that it works well with her.....

digital collage

I suspect I will not get many "hand pulled" prints
done this winter so I am going to do some
digital collages based on my drawings and
messed through photoshop....
I have an A3 pigment ink printer so will
be printing them myself on watercolour paper.
This is the first one I am playing with -
it may be ready to print....
small editions of about 21...
